CONSULAR SECTION


Dear Applicant,

If you are in need of consular service, you are requested to read and follow carefully the instructions below. Failure to do so may result in your application being refused or returned unprocessed. You can contact the Embassy for further enquiry. However, please do not contact us before you have read the instructions below.


VISA

Application for an entry VISA to Vietnam can be made in person or by post to the Embassy of Vietnam. Application in person can be made by the applicant or any representative. Application by post must be sent by Royal Mail Special Delivery.

I. General requirements:

Documents to be submitted are:

  1. Original PASSPORT whose validity must exceed that of the visa by at least one month.

  2. One completed APPLICATION FORM F (download form here).Forms can be retrieved online or distributed at the Embassy.

  3. One passport PHOTOGRAPH taken not more than one year ago, affixed to the application form. Both Vietnamese and British passport sizes are accepted

  4. VISA FEE payment payable to the ‘EMBASSY OF VIETNAM’, all in British pounds sterling only.

         -  For Application in person: payment can be in cash, guaranteed cheque, postal order or bankers draft.

         -  For Application by post: payment should be in guaranteed cheque, postal order or bankers draft only. Your full name, passport number, contact address and telephone number must be provided at the back of the payment. Please DO NOT SEND CASH by post, the Embassy does not accept responsibility for any loss as a result of you sending cash.

         -  Visa fees vary according to the type of visas and length of stay and are regularly adjusted. Please contact the Embassy by email at consular@vietnamembassy.org.uk for relevant fee information.

  5. In case of application by post, passport and visa will be returned by post by Special Delivery. A self-addressed envelope (not stamped) and postal delivery service charge are required.

  6. The Embassy may request further supporting documents and will contact the applicant when necessary. Please do not send any unless contacted and explicitly requested to do so by the Embassy.

II. Processing Schedule:

  • Normal Processing: Five working days (one week) are required for a normal processing of application made in person

  • Express Processing: Two working days for an express processing (additional fee required).

         -  Application by Fax: Application by Fax is available in the Express Processing only. You can send the application form and the main page of your passport by fax TWO DAYS in advance; and then collect the visa upon presenting your passport and paying for the visa fee at the Embassy. If you stay in Vietnam for more than one month and/or one entry, please consult the Embassy.

         -  Same-Day Processing: The visa can be processed in the Express Processing and granted on the same day of application if your stay in Vietnam does not exceed 15 days. This service is not available if you stay for more than 15 days.

  • In case of application by post, it takes five working days plus additional posting time (by Royal Mail Delivery Next Day), i.e the visa processing time will start from the date the application is received, not from the date it is dispatched by post.

         -  Delivery service charge to return your passport by post should be:

    • one passport: GBP 8 per person

    • two or three passports: GBP 6 per person

    • four to seven passports: GBP 5 per person

    • from eight passports: GBP 4 per person

III. Important information:

  • The Embassy of Vietnam in London is the sole authority responsible for issuing Vietnamese visas in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland. The Embassy is not aware of nor take responsibility for any liability, loss, error, damage etc caused by other missions, entities, authorities etc.

  • All required fields in the application form must be filled with care and precision. For Name and contact in Vietnam, please provide the name of the first accommodation or the name of your acquaintance or business.

  • Visa dates are not flexible. A visa will be valid from the entry date to the exit date as printed. You can visit and stay in Vietnam any time between these two dates, i.e. you cannot enter Vietnam before the entry date and you must leave by the exit date. Therefore, you should be clear about the DATE OF ENTRY AND EXIT on your application form.

  • Visa rules and fees for children should follow the same procedure as adults if they have their own passports. Children who are included in parents’ passports do not need separate visas and are not charged (however, their names must be stated in their parents application form with one accompanying photograph). The parents should sign the applications on behalf of children under 14 years old.

  • Once the application is with the Embassy, there is no possibility of any change.

  • Fees and charges once received are not refundable, except in case of rejection.

IV. Dos and Don’ts:

  • The Embassy recommends application by post so as to avoid long queue and save your time and ours.

  • Please do not purchase tickets to Vietnam before you obtain a visa. The visa process is not bound by your travel plan.

  • Please allow sufficient time for visa processing. Please take note of the time required to process your application and check carefully with your local post office to get hold of the posting time (For your information: applications sent from another country to UK may take up to three weeks for turnaround).

  • Please retain the post office’s Tracking Number after you send your application by post to keep track of your passport. Do not call the Embassy to track down your application.

  • Please do not contact the Embassy to chase your application (whether it has been received, processed and returned, by post or by fax), your enquiry will not be accepted, nor will the Embassy confirm the progress of processing. However, you may contact us for this purpose after a reasonable time only, e.g three weeks after the application is sent out.

  • The Embassy is not responsible for any loss or damage to redundant documents not required by us.

  • Abusive language and behaviour towards the Embassy’s staff will not be tolerated and will affect the applications of the persons concerned.

  • For further enquiry, please have your question brief and focus only on details that you cannot find on this website. The Visa Section helpline is open between 09.30 to 12.30 and again from 14.30 to 18.00, Monday to Friday, except Vietnamese and British holidays.

DIPLOMATIC AND OFFICIAL VISA

  • Holders of diplomatic and official passports who are based in UK and Ireland will be granted visas GRATIS unless otherwise endorsed.

  • In addition to the procedure specified in VISA, applicant must submit a Note Verbale or an official letter from the UK Foreign Office or the Republic of Ireland Department of Foreign Affaris, or diplomatic missions accredited to UK, Ireland, and international organisations.

  • British or Irish diplomats to be posted in Vietnam are requested to inform the Embassy of his/her Position, title at the mission in Vietnam, and name of the person that he/she is to replace.

BUSINESS VISA

  • In addition to the procedure specified in VISA, applicant must obtain a business letter from sponsors in Vietnam or from your current employer, stating the purpose of visit and duration of stay in Vietnam.

ENTRY VISA FOR OVERSEAS VIETNAMESE RESIDENTS IN THE UK AND IRELAND

1. First time visit:

  • Those who have never visited Vietnam since their emigration or their most recent visit to Vietnam was made more than 36 months ago are required to fill out FORM V1 (download form)

  • Processing time: 15 working days, excluding posting time.

  • Foreigners accompanying parents, spouses or children who are Vietnamese residing in the UK are required to fill the Application Form F for foreigners (download form)

2. For second time visit and those who have visited Vietnam within the last 36 months:

Please fill FORM V2 (download form)

  • The visa can be issued within 02 (two) working days since the date of receipt of the application and relevant documents to prove the timing of the previous visit.

  • Processing time: Two working days, excluding posting time.

VISA EXEMPTION FOR VIETNAMESE RESIDENTS OVERSEAS

PASSPORT

Vietnamese citizens applying for new Vietnamese passports need to submit:.

  • Two completed passport forms (HC 1 hc1_page1, hc1_page2 for Vietnamese citizens living abroad for a specific period, HC 2 hc2_page1, hc2_page2 for those who settle permanently abroad)

  • One completed biography form (download form)

  • Four recent passport size photos, with white background.

  • Your old passport which would be cancelled and returned after verification. This should be retained to be used along with the new passport if your UK visa remains valid.

  • Passport Fees

  • In case of loss, a police report must be included.

Processing Time: 15 working days, excluding the posting time. In case of loss, it will take more than 30 working days to process.

LEGALISATION

  1. Documents and papers issued by competent authorities of the United Kingdom or Republic of Ireland need to be notarised the Foreign and Commonwealth Office of the United Kingdom or Department of Foreign Affairs of Republic of Ireland before being legalised by the Embassy of Vietnam in London.

  2. Requirements for documents and papers that need legalisation:

    • All seals and signatures must be originals

    • All dates must follow in chronological order on all certifications

    • All documents in other languages than English text must be accompanied by a certified (notarised) English translation

    • Whenever a copy is used, it must include a statement confirming that it is a true and correct copy.

    • Please make a spare set of copy of the notarised documents which will be kept with the Embassy.

  3. Legalisation fee are to be paid in cash, guaranteed cheque, bankers’ draft or postal order for application made in person. For application by post, the fees should be in guaranteed cheque, bankers’ draft or postal order only. All must be in British pounds sterling.

  4. It takes five working days (one week) for processing, excluding the posting time if returnt by post.

MARRIAGE

Civil marriage between two Vietnamese citizens or between a Vietnamese citizen with a foreign spouse must be registered and take place at the Embassy of Vietnam or at a People's Committee at provincial/metropolitan level in Vietnam.

The spouses must attend in person. Dossiers for registering your marriage include:

  • Marriage registration form, completed and signed by both of you. Forms provided on request at the Embassy.

  • A civil status certificate (or certificate of no-impediment) issued by relevant Vietnamese or local authorities, confirming your bachelor status. This should be original and not more than six month old. In case such a document could not be produced, an affidavit administered by the Embassy will take place.

  • Proof of previous divorce (s) should be presented in the form of court ruling or decision, if applicable.

  • Your birth certificates.

  • Your passports or identity cards.

  • Medical reports by relevant health authorities confirming your mental health

An announcement on your intended marriage will then be made public at the Embassy for 30 days. If there is no objections from any other parties, a ceremony will then take place at the Embassy. Both the groom and bride must attend in person.

BIRTH CERTIFICATE

A Vietnamese Birth Certificate is granted to a child:

  • born of two married Vietnamese citizens,

  • one of the parents is a Vietnamese citizen

  • whose mother is a Vietnamese citizen

Dossiers include:

  • Application Form for Birth Certificate. For late applications, please download form here.

  • Photocopies of the parents’ passports.

  • Photocopy of marriage certificate

  • Photocopy of birth record by the hospital

  • For a child born of a Vietnamese citizen and a foreign citizen, the foreign parent needs to submit a declaration stating his/her acceptance that the child may carry Vietnamese citizenship.

Processing Time: Five working days, excluding the posting time.

ADOPTION

  1. Dossier for Adoption:

  • Application for adoption (Vietnamese Form No. 03TP/HT-NN: adopt_page1, adopt_page2, adopt_page3)

  • Commitment of periodical report (Vietnamese Form No.04 TP/HT-NN: commit_page1, commit_page2)

  • Marriage Certificate

  • Birth Certificates (husband and wife)

  • Copies of passports (husband and wife)

  • Papers issued by the relevant British or Irish authorities and organizations in less than 6 months, including:

    • Eligibility Certificate (or Adoption Board Declaration)

    • Police check (husband and wife)

    • Medical Certificate (husband and wife), certifying that the applicant is physically and mentally healthy, with no mental or communicative disease and is able to parent an adoptive child

    • Financial Statements (husband and wife), certifying the applicant's working situation and annual income with financial ability to care for an adoptive child

    • Home study.

  1. Legalisation of Adoption Dossier

  • All the above-mentioned documents (except numbers (1) and (2)) need to be legalised by the Foreign and Commonwealth office of the United Kingdom or Department of Foreign Affairs of Republic of Ireland before being submitted to the Embassy of Vietnam in London for legalisation and processing in Vietnam

  • Legalisation fee should be paid in cash, guaranteed cheque, bankers draft or postal order if application is made in person.

    • Guaranteed cheque, bankers draft or postal order if the application is made by post.

    • All fees should be made payable to the Embassy of Vietnam and in British pounds sterling only. For further relevant fee information, please contact the Embassy.

CERTAIN CONSULAR SERVICES ARE NOT PROVIDED BY THE EMBASSY, INCLUDING:

  • Duplicate Birth Certificate (for those who were born in Vietnam and their original birth certificates were not issued by the Embassy)

  • Vietnamese Police Check.

Please do not contact the Embassy for the above documents. You must petition for them at the local authorities in Vietnam where the deed was performed.

Please note that there is NO appointment system at the Embassy, you will have to join a single queue which varies everyday and for which no preferential treatment is given.
